The bare pipe in this steam shower is the pipe for the maintenance drain and pressure relief safety valve (PRV), and should never be piped into the shower as a safety measure. Hot, scalding water can possibly discharge during a steam bathing session. Also, a steam head or some sort of outlet should have been installed on it as any opening in the wall may allow water to seep in.
