Title: Building a sauna
Post by: Alex on August 21, 2009, 01:21:55 PM
I have a space in my basement that is 8x8x8 with 2 brick walls and will be building out 2 frame walls which i will cover with cedar. Do you think i can leave the 2 brick walls as they are and just put some benches in there? I think the brick walls will give it a rustic look.

The walls and ceiling in any Finnish sauna are always made of wood.  While brick walls would make for a great "look", it does not make for a good sauna room.  These walls should be framed, insulated, and built the same as the others for a comfortable and consistent sauna bathing environment.

Brick walls are common in another type of sweat bath, known as Temazcal.  Call a Sauna Specialist (http://www.steamsaunabath.com/catalog/project_coordinator.php) to explore the options for your installation.
