Title: How far away should the generator be from the room?
Post by: Payton on December 04, 2009, 07:48:54 AM
I have been on several web sites and they all seem to vary on the lenght of a steam run.  Can you tell me what is the general length a steam generator can be away from the room?  If the generator is closer is that better?  Some manufacturers say 25' and then offer 60 and 100 foot cables while others are adamant about 50'.

Every manufacturer differs in their distance specification and these specifications should be adhered to.
I would not let the length of a control dictate this.  The length of the cable is longer to allow plenty of length for install.  Generator could be 50 feet away but a 50 foot cable may not be long enough.
Anyway, back to the generator distance...
Distance only has an effect on performance if you install the generator farther away then specifications state.
For example, if you install a specified 25 foot generator 100 feet away, it will not perform as it should.
