Title: Is a Vapor Barrier necessary when building a steam shower?
Post by: Sarah on March 02, 2009, 08:21:48 AM
We finally narrowed down our tile and the size of the room but my contractor started talking about a barrier he feels would be beneficial.  Since I am not familliar with this, I have come back to the forum in hopes someone is familliar or knowing of such an item.

What are the benefits of using vapor barrier?  Is it necessary when building a steam shower?

Without a doubt, vapor barrier should always be used in steam shower applications.  This provides additional protection for your walls in case there is any absorption of steam through your wall materials, or in your case, tile and grout.  Check out the link below to learn more about wall construction for steam shower environments.
