i have a bath tub which i want to convert to a steam room. my tile goes up to about 18" from the ceiling. can i just tile the rest of the way up and paint the ceiling with water proof paint or do i need to tear it all out and start all over again? Huh

If you are tiling up the remainder of the wall, you could tile the ceiling at the same time.  While water proof paint can be used if you ensure complete and sufficient coverage, but I wouldn't recommend it.  Keep in mind that you are not water proofing to aid the steam shower, you are water proofing to protect the areas outside and behind the water proof materials.  Additionally, as heat rises, the steam and heat will rise and gather at the steam shower ceiling, creating a very high moisture area.  I would highly recommend using tile or another water proof surface material.
