Title: Mr. Steam Express Steam
Post by: KnotScot on May 04, 2012, 04:25:46 PM
We are considering the MS400E unit for our steam shower and are wondering what the difference is between the standard and the express steam?  Does it produce steam in less than a minute?

There are many makes and models that offer "steam in seconds".  For Mr Steam it is called "express steam".
Any generator that offers this features keeps the water in the tank hot so that when you initiate the steam generator from your control you will begin to see fog/steam emit from the steam head in 1 minute or less.  Even when not using your steam generator, it will always be using energy to keep the water hot, just like a hot water heater for the whole house.
Any generator that is without express options will produce steam in about 4-5 minutes.
Now, which ever you choose, it will still take both types of generators time to heat up the room to your desired temperature within 15-20 minutes.  So the only benefit is how fast the steam comes out the head but only shaves about 5 minutes off your room heat up time.

Express Steam will deliver steam to the room faster.  The rate is determined by the generator model and is not published by Mr Steam.

The myth with "instant steam" operating features is that you can enjoy a warming bath the moment steam enters the room.  The truth is that steam will enter quicker, however, one must still await the warmth of the room which is most effectively delivered once the wall/surface materials of the steam room heat up.

The decision on such a feature involves your feelings on paying the utility for the continuous energy consumption or adding an additional four minutes to your steam bath routine.
