Title: Natural gas steam generator?
Post by: Jon on April 10, 2012, 05:39:52 PM
I am interested in building a steam shower in my home, the size will be about 1200 acf.  Due to the electrical demands, none of the electric units suggested by the calculator will be suitable for me.  What options are available for using natural gas instead of electricity?

As a rule I would not usually suggest a commercial gas boiler for residential use but this may be an exception. There are no residential steam units that use gas but certainly that does not preclude you from using a commercial boiler.

We have a 3 Horsepower 180,000 BTU steam room boiler that would certainly fulfill your requirements. It is not a complicated system but we need a lot more information before we could specify the proper equipment for you.

Your location is important and could require certain regional equipment.

The boiler has a 2x2 foot print and requires an additional 36 of space around the equipment.

The boiler weighs about 500 lb.

You will need a licensed plumber for installation.

If this seems like the direction you wish to go I would recommend you contact one of the steam specialists at steamsaunabath.com; 800 707 2862 so that we can specify all the right equipment for your application.

Residential steam generators built for gas operation would be cost prohibitive and the small industry demand contributes to the complications in profitably producing such a unit.  Hence, steam bath manufactureres have limited their focus to electric.

Certainly a large residential application could employ a commercial gas boiler, but as Jennifer says, much discussion surrounding operation would be necessary to properly specifythe product for the application.

Try some solar equipments. I think they might work but can't say for sure.
