A 120V generator has limited applications. It can be used in small acrylic shower units, which don't have high heat demands due to size and wall materials. In today's upscale steam showers, demands of time and materials such as marble, travertine, etc. have power requirements, which are best served by a 240V generator.

Great response, Jennifer.  And what a nice blog post you found.  The author was quite thorough.

When it comes to a making a decision between a steam room utilizing a 120VAC steam bath generator and no steam in the environment at all, one must determine if they can lower their steam bathing expectations.

So long as the room is enclosed with a height no greater than 84" and smaller than 120 cubic feet, you can create a great vapor bath by initiating the steam generator and waiting 20 minutes to enter.  For additional heat, you could consider running the hot water simultaneously.  The combination will create a soothing warmth, produce an abundance of humidity, enhance the aroma of your favorite essential oil, deliver a calming ambiance, and provide for a light sweat.

If your steam bath experience "must" have the high heat of a commercial bathing environment, steer clear of 120VAC steam bath generators.  Unless the environment is less than 80 cubic feet and is made of fiberglass or acrylic, 120VAC electric steam bath generators "will not" create the heat of a typical steam bath.
