Title: Can you use Cultured Marble in a steam room??
Post by: Rachel on February 06, 2009, 07:45:23 AM
Hey,

We installed a steam shower in our home about a year ago.  We purchased a Thermasol generator pro140 and have cultured marble on our walls.  After about six months, our cultured marble cracked completely across the wall where the steamhead is.  We replaced the cultured marble with the same, and it has happened again.  One large crack either side of the steamhead.  Why is this happening?  Is there something we could do to prevent this from occurring again or should we considered using a different wall material?  Any info would be appreciated.......

Have you checked with the manufacturer of your cultured marble about this concern?  Some companies tend to reinforce their cultured marble panels with fiberglass for the areas directly around the steam outlet/head to prevent the potential for "thermal shock".

Cultured Marble is successfully used in many steam showers.  Give the product manufacturer a call to verify the installation guidelines for their particular product.
