Title: steam generator installation location
Post by: Brian on February 24, 2009, 11:37:41 AM
My new room is almost complete, with just a FEW items to sort out. According to the manual, my generator can be mounted pretty far away. My contractor wants to mount it under the bench inside the steam room. I question the ventalation down there. I cannot find anything regarding what type of ventalation is needed for proper cooling of the unit. The manual mentions not mounting the steam pipe near flamable materials, but nothing about the generator. Will it be ok under the bench?

Under the bench is a common installation location. Steam generators do not really require much cooling or ventilation since the steam generator casing does not get hot during normal operation.
What you need to be watchful for with an under the bench installation is making sure you create an access panel and sufficient space for service, if ever needed. Failing to do so can seriously complicate the repair process which, in turn, can severely inflate the repair time therefore increasing the cost (not to mention making your repair guy unhappy :().
