Is it OK to pipe the prv into the shower area

Theoretically this can be done.  However, it creates a safety & liability issue.
Manufacturers frown upon this method for that very reason.
Odds are in your favor that the Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) will not engage but if it does, anyone in the shower will be severely burned by the boiling water.
You'll have 15 pounds of pressurized steam & water come out.
During normal operation, steam does not have that many pounds of pressure behind it therefore, it is safer than the PRV.
