Title: steam generator causes breaker to trip
Post by: Kal on October 08, 2010, 05:48:29 AM
The other night i used my steam shower longer than i normally do and it tripped the breaker in the electrical panel. Is it possible to have something wrong with my unit if i use it to long?

I suspect that the amount of time was just a coincidence.
You need to have a licensed electrician come out to take a look and ensure the appropriate breaker size and wire size is installed as the manufacturer specifies.
Also, if you have a GFCI type breaker, this could be the issue.
Steam generators do not play well with GFCI breakers and manufacturers installation manuals note not to utilize them.

The amperage draw of a steam bath generator should not vary under normal operating conditions.  The problem you describe is more indicative of a weak circuit breaker in the home's main electrical panel.
