Carter,

Most steam generators and their corresponding controls allow for a range from 90 to up to 130 Fahrenheit, depending on the model.   The deciding factor is personal preference. . . how hot do you like it?  Adjusting the temperature to meet your comfort level will afford you the maximum benefits and pleasure from your steam environment.

Enjoy!

My steam room doesn't have a control only a timer outside the steam room

While you don't have a temperature control for your steam generator, the recommended temperature range for your steam shower is still be 90 to 130.  The "correct" temperature is determined by your comfort and personal preference.

Timer-only steam showers are simple to use and highly reliable.  If you like your steam shower hot, just turn the unit on and forget it until the timer runs out.  If you like your steam shower a little cooler, simply turn off the unit when the room begins getting too warm.  Once the room begins to cool a bit, you can turn the unit on again.

Many health clubs and fitness centers utilize this type of control for their facilities.  That is where some steam shower owners first experience steam bathing and they are quite happy with installing this type of control in their home.  Additionally, these controls are very affordable and they can be installed anywhere outside the shower enclosure.
