The steam generator manufacturer with the most effective maintenance draining system is ThermaSol.  They offer an automatic power flushing system which operates using pressure, similar to flushing your car radiator.  This feature can be found on the SteamShower AF Series or the ProSeries generators.

In addition, I would recommend installing a water softener on the line unless you have a whole-house system in place.  Check out this residential water filtration system from Amerec.
