What is the difference between the Mr Steam F1 control and new D1 control?

There is not a huge difference between the two.
The F1 Plus control was to set the operating room temperature by the turn of a dial. 
The D1 Plus control is a digital control to set the operating room temperature.
The F1 setup used a secondary mechanical control for the temperature high limit safety.
The D1 Plus control has the temperature high limit safety built into.
So when the F1 Plus was in use, it was 2 separate temperature controls.
With the D1 Plus, you get 2 controls built in 1.
