Title: Mr Steam pre-installation check
Post by: gomezadam on March 31, 2013, 04:22:32 PM
I bought a 1 year old but never hooked up mr. steam (model Mr.Steam MS SUPER 1E) without controls.
Before I buy the controls I would like to check if the unit is working properly. Is there a way to check this out?
I have a 50 Amp breaker and #8 wire but am afraid to power it up as the intake water valve is closed.
Please help, Peter

Peter -

The steam bath generator you purchased is still within the MrSteam warranty period.  Despite its current operating status, an investment in the proper control should be made.  It would be very unusual for this generator to fail upon removal from the box.

Do you have reason to suspect that generator may not function?

Provide me the generator serial number and I can confirm the warranty and reply with a best technique to verify operation.

Hi, Serial # is 951763
When I bought it, the generator looked unused but very dusty.
I noticed the mother board has a "on" button and some lights. I do
need controls but would like to find out first if the unit is working.

Peter -

Only a trained and licensed electrical professional should attempt to operate a steam bath generator with access panels removed and high voltage exposed.  I must warn you, this generator operates at 240-volts AC, draws 50-amps of current and only a knowledgeable technician should attempt a control bypass procedure.

There are three circular cutouts in the stainless steel front access panel of your steam bath generator.  They exist for visual inspection of three diagnostic LEDs.  With the power off at the the generator's dedicated electrical disconnect, remove the top access panel (two screws) to expose the PC board.  A small white button is situated to the right, and adjacent to the three diagnostic LED lights.  With power to the steam bath generator, this button will initiate the steam generator and bypass the control system.  Once operation is verified, power down the electrical disconnect to terminate steam generator operation and replace access cover prior to restoring power.

**  Important  ** It is our recommendation that you do not attempt this procedure unless you are a licensed end electrical professional.

Let us know if you require an installer, technician or accessories, Peter.

Hi Bernard, thanks for your advice. The unit seemed to be working well (steamed like a bloody locomotive!)
and I am now ready to buy controls. Can you quote me your best price?
Regards, Peter

Hi Peter -

Glad all is well.

To price you a control, we would need to know the fixture finish, desired control shape and control model.

Can you give Kayla a call or email her at kayla@steamsaunabath.com.  She can review the options with you and get you a great price to complete your installation.  We always prefer talking to bathers as there is so much information to share and email does not allow us the opportunity to connect and ensure you have all the information necessary to make the best decision.

Thanks, Peter!
