Title: Replacing a Steamist Controller
Post by: nhegde on March 26, 2013, 08:59:07 PM
We bought our house two years ago. It came with a Steamist SM-3TC sauna with a controller that is outside the sauna and has two chrome knobs. I think it is a TC-100 (from googling around). The steam bath seems functional. It steams and shuts off and so forth. I wanted to replace the controller with a newer digital version if possible. Is there any options. I understand the SM-3TC is over 20 years old. Thanks

Thank you for your inquiry. Great question.
You are correct, the Steamist SM-TC steam bath generators were manufactured in the mid to late 80's and employed a single-panel exterior-mounted time and temperature control (TC-100) with two chrome knobs situated side-by-side to set both steam shower session duration and temperature.
Unfortunately, this steam generator will not operate with any control other than the one you currently have (TC-100). As your steam generator is well over 20 years old and has exceeded its typical useful life, it would be my suggestion to upgrade both the generator and control to benefit from the latest innovations.
When you are ready to replace the entire system, I would be happy to provide you a very specific list of questions for you to answer that would allow me to specify the exact model and specific steps you can take to get the job. Your response to these questions would allow me specify the appropriate equipment that satisfies your needs and guide you through the most cost-effective and simple route. We could also recommend a qualified installed in your area.
